Miami-Dade and Broward Counties have strong Haitian communities, not the least of which is Little Haiti in Miami-Dade County. My general understanding is, most of the organization for this and other such protests came out of organizers in Little Haiti.
Father Gérard Jean-Juste was imprisoned in Haiti at the time of this protest, and had been for some time.
Through this and other Haitian Protests I attended, I have learned far more about the Haitian community, and in particular, their passion, which far exceeds that of any other such group or type of protest. It’s no small feat to muster the resources for a protest on this level.
